Marlin The Magician Briscoe!

 

Marlin Briscoe died the other day. He has that distinction of being the first black starting QB in the NFL thats for sure and he should be in the Pro Football Hall of Fame but aside from all that, he was from Omaha.

Omaha has not that many athletes who make it big. When I was a kid there were the big ones that included Gale Sayers, Bob Gibson, Bob Boozer, Ron Boone, Johnny Rodgers and that was about it. Marlin Briscoe was one who never really thought of with pride by this city until the last few years. Marlin was a starting QB for what was known as the University of Omaha, a commuter college in the heart of the city. It was city run at the time, maybe the last of its kind, and its students were generally older and not really into the athletics. In 1963-67 Marlin Briscoe started for the U of O Indians (to its credit the university changed the name in 1970 to Mavericks way before most other schools with similar slurs did) and quite frankly I was way too young to appreciate anything other than Twins baseball and Gale Sayers running wild for my Bears. Oh what a sight it must have been at the old stadium to the Magician play. 

Briscoe of course started for the Broncos at QB for 5 games in 1968 and statistically was as good as anybody. But of course back then black quarterbacks were thought of as not all that bright, unable to handle the intensity of playing QB and not the face the racists who ran NFL teams wanted to put out there. Now of course if being smart was a qualifier to play QB in the NFL there'd be nothing but a band of Ryan Fitzpatricks out there making everybody 9-8 or 8-9. So Briscoe was sent packing to Buffalo and turned into a wide receiver and later to Miami where he won a couple of rings before the age and the drugs turned him into an ex player.

He later got off the dope and ran counseling centers in California to help others with similar problems. 

Marlin died before he got what he had earned. Hall of Fame status, adoration from his hometown, and a damned movie that has been bouncing around for years and never was made.

For chrissakes, put the man in the HOF, name a building or something at UNO after him, and get the movie made and out there so the whole world knows who this trailblazer was.

Dr Oz Celebrates Juneteenth! Sort Of!

 Dr Mehmet Oz, a New Jersey TV quack conning people for years, is ,for some reason, the choice of GOP voters in Pennsylvania to run for the US Senate, But then in this day and age of you know who, all that matters to most Republican voters is the ratings, and the wow I seen him on TV factor. Oz is the epitome' of all of that empty headed nonsense.

Doc Oz of New Jersey is probably nowhere near as MAGA as he pretends to be, but he is a TV con man so he can be whatever it is you want him to be. And apparently he has become what they want him to be, By they I mean MAGA GOP, the white nationalists who run the party who probably got a bit butthurt by Oz's tweet yesterday on Juneteenth.

"Our country is better because of our freedoms, our unity, and our equality"

Pretty pretty pretty nondescript for most normal people. But to MAGA GOP that whole equality shit is a bit too much. The white nationalists in charge of the Pennsylvania MAGA GOP may have called the good Doctor and said hey there, Fetterman is kicking your ass in the polls, lets go full on MAGA GOP and appeal to the middle of the state, and enough of that equality crap.

Thus Doc Oz deleted the first tweet and sent out the second, minus the equality part, sort of the whole reason for Juneteenth. I assume to appease the white supremacy gang.

Thats ok Dr Oz. We know Juneteenth is for "those people" and the "real" celebration is in a couple of weeks when white people get a day off, get hammered, shoot fireworks and act like assholes.

Paul McCartney!

 The cute one is 80. Oh my god. How can this be?

Happy Birthday Sir Paul McCartney still going strong at 80 and sharing stages with the only guy close to being John. Bruuuuuce.

Paul was the prick. He was so single minded, so business oriented, so dominating, so genius, there is no way he could survive being one of four any longer.  He had to spread his Wings and be the sole voice and talent , No more listening to George's well meant hey what about me's or John's sarcasm and devotion to not only making music but having fun doing it. So Paul left the most life changing band ever. It wasn't Yoko who broke up the Beatles, it was Paul needing to be left alone to do his thing. Thats not a bad thing by the way. Like a rock star who dies at 27 cementing legendary status forever, Paul simply let the Beatles die when he was 27, and moved on to make his own path.

Paul has many flaws. Some of the things he did after Wings was trash. Some of the things he did WITH Wings was trash. McCartney seems to have so many things going on in his gigantic mind at once sometimes he cant distinguish the pebbles from the diamonds. He doesn't understand that Say Say Say or Ebony and Ivory is different from Juniors Farm or Band on the Run or Eleanor Rigby. Its all genius to him. Because he thought of it. 

Dont get me wrong, despite a good 25 years of me dismissing Paul as a not serious person once John had been taken from us, I realized how wrong I was. I remember saying to people in 2005 that McCartney at the Super Bowl halftime was the bottom. Old guy (62 or so) hanging on by a thread. Then I saw it. I saw HIM. Drive My Car, Get Back, Live and Let Die and then of course Hey Jude. What the hell was wrong with me??? It was absolutely brilliant and I was back onboard.

Max became a Beatles freak when he was in his early teens. Listening to them incessantly and expressing an interest in seeing Paul "before he dies". Before he dies? Oh shit, how about before I die.

We saw him at the Sprint Center in Kansas City in 2010 (hello Kansas) from behind the stage and in the rafters. Max got into a discussion with the guy next to him who seemed fascinated a mere child could be interested in this guy. Then Venus and Mars Rockshow started and the legend came onstage and began a 2 hour show of pure excellence. And then the masterpiece started.....McCartneys guitarist began singing....I read the news today oh boy....then ......woke up fell out of bed dragged a comb across my head and maybe for the first time EVER I truly believed, yeah I can drop dead right now and die a happy man. A Day in the Life live? Never in my wildest dream.

We have seen Paul numerous times since and he's a force still. The greatest still alive. Happy Birthday Paul, you've made THIS guys life richer. And keep doing 1985 because its the best Wings song ever.

Thoughts and Rants!

 Lots of stuff to talk about. 

The Nativity School of Worcester. Oh how shall I put this? Bishop Robert McManus (of course hes of the Irish breed) has got a real stick up his cassock because the Jesuit run school decided to run up its flag pole a Pride Flag and a Black Lives Matter flag to make sure the community of Woostahhhh knew this school welcomed all. Bishop McManus, a "Midwestern Catholic" if I ever saw one , swung his shillelagh around demanding they be taken down because they are "scandalous"  and dont fall in line with Catholic learnin. The problem with the good Bishop is he doesnt take into account who he's fucking around with. The Nativity School is run by the Jesuits, the Catholic bomb throwers with 6 or 7 college degrees who get the whole shebang on what the world has become. The Jebs are not about to take these flags down because some commoner Bishop named McLovin or whatever says so. Thus the name "Catholic" has been taken from them because of their defiance and now its just another school with a welcoming attitude. Black and brown and gay kids can still go there and not be told what sinners and whiners they are by some grifter in a robe. You'd think Bishop Bob would have better things to worry about than a couple of flags flying at a school in Woostahhhh. Like the $2.1 million he had to pay out to the little boys families his priests molested over the years. Not to mention the next flag the Jesuits will run up the pole is the Jolly Roger.

The hearings continue. Donald Trump is in this up to his bronzer. He practically ordered a hit on his second in command, called him a pussy, reminded him he wouldn't be his friend anymore like a petulant 4th grader and tweeted out a call to arms at 2:24 PM that Mike Pence was a wimp. For some reason at about 2:25PM the Capitol Police said that the real violence began. Trumps trash began the real attempt to not only overthrow democracy but to actually kill Pence, kill Nancy, kill Schumer, and rape the shit out of AOC and fulfill all their sick fantasies. Rep Loudmouth or whatever of Georgia and god knows who else had taken the filth on a tour of the Capitol on Jan 5th, well not really the Capitol but the bowels of the Capitol where they took pics of stairwells and offices and hallways and made it easier for the garbage to make their way around looking for people to hang the next day. Meanwhile former sex workers now in Congress relayed information on where the hangees were at various points during the day dumpster dwellers tried a coup. This is stuff known after only two days. What the hell else is coming? Needless to say ,Trump is a criminal and actually in everyday life would be charged with things like attempted murder, racketeering, mail fraud, and trespassing for 4 years on the peoples White House. Oh and all you MAGA morons who sent him money? You got played. Take the loss and move on. But like him, you wont ever admit you are wrong. Keep writing those $17 checks and sending them off to the Grifter in Chief. JFC.

Ginni Thomas. What else can be said? The woman is weak minded,  been in religious cults and eventually a political cult of which she remains a member. Her texts with Mark Meadows, the Arizona lege, and who knows who else, in which she urged fake electors be chosen (by the way in Arizona the fakes video'd themselves committing a crime) urged Meadows to stop the left by making Pence do the crooked work of her hero, and wanted some Democrats tortured off the shores of Gitmo on barges were truly the thoughts of a sick fuck. Tie a Bible around her neck along with her complicit spouse and let Cheney and the boys have their way with her. That would be a real torture for Democrats to listen to her bullshit for hours.

The proposed gun bill. Its really a tiny step forward but at least its something, right? Well its nothing because Republicans know who their constituency is. The so called "boyfriend loophole" which allows violent domestic abusers NOT married to the victim to be allowed to buy guns? Tex Cornyn, the alleged voice of reason, has a problem with the loophole being closed to boyfriends who like to hit women being curtailed from actually killing them with a gun. Why? Well Tex isnt quite sure about that but he opposes closing that loophole. The fact is he doesn't want to close that gaping open strip mine loophole because domestic abusers not married to their victims make up a significant part of the base of crazies who vote for these cowards. Real men in other words. Men who dont take women's shit and establish dominance with a well timed punch or two.  The GOP base....Kind of like America itself.....as Carlin said We cant do anything right any longer but we sure as hell can bomb the shit out of you. This bill will never pass and its the out Cornyn and his subjects always wanted. People forget...just give it some time then crank up the old they're coming for your guns shit. It works.

The ratfuckers are still out there my friends. They are plotting to steal it all the next time. And next time, with over 100 election deniers on the ballot for local and state offices as Republicans, they could pull it off. Here in Red Nebraska, for some reason , the GOP voters rejected the kooks for the most part, oh theres a few nutjobs still on the ballot for things like school boards, but here it looks like the same old 1950s button downed boring ass GOP. But then they have nothing to worry about here. If you have an R next to your name anywhere west of Lincoln, its a family tradition you mark that ballot for the R. Period. Makes it much easier not to think. The Nebraska Way.

There Will Come A Day When Donald T**** Is Gone But Your Dishonor Will Remain!!

 Paying attention now? Well of course you are but what worries me is that many are not. And those people have probably gone to their corners already and nothing will change their minds.

The hearing was captivating. The tapes, the recordings, the story. Who could t have been captivated? Hearing Bill Barr call bullshit on the Big Lie, hearing Vanky say she believed Barr, seeing various flunkies of TFG calling his crap out. Amazing what people will say under threat of being jailed. The truth?

I have no love for any Cheneys. Dick was a war criminal running a shadow government bent on death and destruction. Liz was a soulless opportunist who stabbed her sister in the back by opposing gay marriage in order to have Wyoming wankers vote for her. But something happened to Liz Cheney in between voting to support the GOP's anti-regular people agenda . A fucking attempted coup. Cheney, who obviously despises the crazies who ginned up a gang of low intellect trash, couldnt wait tell a cover up artist like Gym Jordan the insurrection was his fucking doing. She was on board turning the United States into a right wing paradise legally but not on board with doing it via riots and treason. One of two Republicans who felt that way, the rest are cowards and nutless nincompoops, they were put on the 1/6 House Committee by Nancy Pelosi (Naaaaaancy). Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger. One refused to run again rather than face the wrath of the weak minded base and the other is being primaried by a state party run by Q Anon nuts. She may even lose the primary due to her  putting country over party. The T**** Crime Syndicate is trying to make that happen and may succeed. But Liz Cheney has more integrity in her right wing thumb than the rest of the GOP cowards do collectively.

Cheney's opening statement was brilliant. Its very difficult for me to separate the atrocious voting record from the person but what do they say about the enemy of my enemy is my friend? Well for now she's my BFF. I remember when the election was certified it was her and her evil Darth Vader father standing alone in the GOP section of the House applauding while the rest of the Republican chickenshits hid even better than they did when their voters tried to kill them.

The testimony from Capitol Police Office Caroline Edwards was compelled . You could see the PTSD returning to her as her eyes became even farther and farther away. The tape of her being assaulted by "tough guys " with beards and goats was disgusting. It pissed me off even more than when I'd seen it live. The 10 minute tape shot by the British filmmaker was raising your blood pressure tough to watch (proof of the utter stupidity of Proud Boys and the like inviting a documentarian to record their felonies). When the police officer screamed "We're fucked" it summed up the country on that day. When a gang of cultist brain dead cretins do what they are told by a narcissist cult leader it offends any normal person. Unfortunately they did not show my favorite moment of 1/6, when Ashli Babbitt failed to comply and fucked around and found out.

This was a planned coup. A coup plotted by a nutcase sociopath and his enablers. And that nutcase sociopath has to be held accountable along with his co conspirators. If they arent, we are done. I am already afraid that high gas prices and inflation will make too damn many Americans vote for fascism and white supremacy. Oh thats ok a little authoritarianism is a small price to pay for $3 gas and keeping those browns out of my neighborhood.

Meanwhile over on Right Wing TV the usual band of grifters carried on with their lies and bullshit, often with no commercials so no Fox viewer would change the channel (yeah sure like Fox viewers could figure out the remote within 2 minutes). The strategy of just saying the opposite of the truth is theirs. They used to maybe tell 25% of the truth and mislead their spaced out geriatric crowd. But now its a complete 180. Black is white, up is down, fascism is freedom, TV dinners are fine dining. The bullshit is stupefying. For fucks sake there are texts from Hannity and McEnaney decrying what T**** was doing but they just stay on track and lie knowing their hypnotized hellhound audience wont ever even attempt to find the truth . Rupert Murdoch is certainly on the list of Top 10 traitors of all time. 

I for one cannot wait for Monday morning. By the time these people are done, if Donald T**** still has support for running again, or is free for that matter, the coup makers and the trashy gang of vandals will have won.
